Greetings! My name is Sha-Kim Smith and I have chosen to share my talents by blessing others with the power of healing touch. I am a native of Louisville Kentucky, but have considered Cincinnati home since 1999. I spent over 10 years of my adult career devoted to a life in Higher Education before Life proclaimed it had other plans. In January 2014 I was faced with my 2nd surgery (and 3rd medical procedure) within a 9 year time span. By May I was on medical leave and within a few months, what was once temporary had become permanent. I was now functioning (not living) via the terms and conditions set by illness and chronic pain. It would take 2 years and 8 doctors to discover the first piece of the painfully complicated puzzle that had become my norm. Throughout that time being poked, prodded, scanned, evaluated, and prescribed medications was routine and I was experiencing physical, mental and spiritual warfare. I struggled and my relationship with God was caught in the cross-fire. The shift came when I was told a 3rd, and more intrusive, surgery was required for any hope of pain relief. I decided I was in need of a renewal. The massage career I had only slightly considered a few years prior was reimagined and repurposed. I graduated from the Cincinnati School of Medical Massage in January 2017 and have since dedicated myself to sharing the undeniable healing power of touch. Although I still struggle with chronic pain, I believe in the importance of self-care and how touch can restore strength, solace, and soundness of body, mind and spirit. My personal experience afforded me the ability to connect as both therapist and client. This perspective has empowered me to create an environment that cultivates compassion, kindness, and empathy. It is no wonder that Grace and Grit was meant for me.
